Weymouth
An Aerial View From The East
![]() |
This
fine view shows us so much of how Weymouth appeared in the 1920s, I
believe the old Westham Bridge can still be seen in the upper right
of the picture.
It was published by The Clinton Restaurant and carries this slogan on the rear - 'Send this card to your friends so that they will know where to come for LUNCH and TEA(sic) when in Weymouth'. The Bathing Saloons and individual changing rooms are available as are the rows of tents beneath the edge of the Esplanade. The Tea Cabin and the predecessor of today's Information Centre can be seen. The statue of George the Third overlooks the Bus Terminal and there are few cars in evidence. The houses and shops of Royal Terrace and Johnstone Row show their Georgian heritage. It is hard to imagine that 130 odd years earlier Royal Terrace was known as The Royal Shrubbery and earlier still there was an ancient Windmill on the site. |
