Weymouth
Aerial View from the North East

This card, postmarked 1924, was taken between 1913 the year the Victoria Secondary School was built (later Weymouth Grammar School, itself recently demolished to become a housing development) and 1921 when the old Westham Bridge seen here was replaced.

The reclamation of land alongside Commercial Road had not commenced.
To the right of Westham Bridge can be seen the weir used to control the water and tides prior to construction of the present Westham Bridge with the sluice mechanisms built into the bridge.

Many other landmarks are visible including The Nothe and Harbour entrance, The Pavilion Theatre, The Royal Hotel and at the extreme left the Tower of Christchurch at the junction of Park Street and King Street later to be demolished in the 1950s, To the rear of Christchurch was the British Restaurant during World War 2 and fondly known to a generation as 'Cookery Nook'

Views from the same series and possibly the same flight can be seen at Harbour and Town
