Weymouth - The Pier Bandstand
circa 1939

In this 1939 view we have a fine view of the, then, recently opened Pier Bandstand.
The rowing boats and canoes await the first customers of the day, hard to believe that in a few short months the scene would change so dramatically as anti-invasion precautions would replace the boats.
The lady sending the card to a friend wishes her a Happy New Year and hopes it will bring a lasting peace.
She shares the news that her sailor son is on the North Sea and her other son is with the R.E.s(Royal Engineers) on the Nothe. The wartime entreaties 'To Keep Mum!' had obviously yet to be observed.
This is one of many pictures taken and published by Kestins in my collection, they are distinctive in their quality. Their shop was in St. Mary,s St.
