Today, the view is very different. The Bothy as it was known has long since disappeared and the area around the central raised flower bed was converted to a paddling pool. A row of neat chalets was constructed facing East. The hills in the distance have disappeared under housing and the area in between, for so long an undeveloped site, has become a wild life and bird sanctuary. Less than a half mile from the Bothy was a Turnpike Cottage occupied by Mr. Shorey who sold logs from a horsedrawn cart in the years just after World War 2. As I recall his nickname was 'Sugar'em' I would love to know why. I can recall riding alongside him after he had delivered in our street and the aroma from the wood and the horse lingers in my memory |
