This view shows
St. Mary's Street before 1938, as Woolworth's is not yet built.
We are looking north from the junction with Bond Street, the Royal
Hotel can be clearly seen in the distance.
To the left is V. H. Bennetts department store more recently John
Menzies and now W. H. Smith.
Note the Milk Cart complete with Churn.
My sister worked for Hallets (their advertisement is clearly visible)
in the 1960s at their workshop which was then located in Gloucester
Street.
This card , another by Seward, was posted in Dec. 1943 and the writer
tells of a biting wind and lots of 'white horses' in the Bay stating
he wouldn't want to go for a swim! Although at that time he would
have had to share the beach with those preparing for D-Day.
