Weymouth
White Horse

One of the more well-known landmarks on the approach to Weymouth from the East. A tribute to King George 3rd. who did so much to popularise the Seaside, and particularly Weymouth, as a place for recreation. Much legend surrounds the carving in the chalk including the belief that George was so upset to find himself facing away from the Town that he never returned and that the designer received some grisly punishment for this error. The photographer obviously liked Terriers! The writer of this card, posted in 1915, advises that his room is very good and has 'the Electric Light' |
